Monkey and Human Communication Similarities
Monkey |
If you take the time to study the monkey and how it lives and communicates, you will find that these creatures have a lot in common with humans. Since there are a lot of monkeys that live in large groups, it is important for them to be able to communicate. They use sounds, facial expressions, and body movements to get across what they want to say. This is much like what humans do when we interact with one another. Many groups of monkeys prefer to use noises to let another monkey know that they need to get out of their territory instead of fighting.

The Monkey that Uses its Tail
Thinking monkey! |
When it comes to the monkey, you probably picture all monkeys being able to use their tails to help them to swing through trees. While this is true in some cases, it is not true for all monkeys. Arboreal monkeys are the group of monkeys that have special tails that they can use to grab branches of trees or to pick something up. These monkeys are so adept at using their tails that they are even able to pick up something small such as a peanut. In most cases, the tail is used to hold the monkey while it is collecting food.

New World Monkey Social Divisions
cute monkeys |
New World monkeys are the smaller ones in the primate family. They divide themselves by social groups. When it comes to a New World monkey, their social structure is dependent on which specific species the monkey is. There are a lot of groups that live with a monogamous pair of monkeys and their offspring much like human families do. However, there are some species that live in an extremely large community of hundreds of monkeys. These communities are typically made up of mostly females and a few males. It all really depends on the specific species of the monkey how they live socially.

Trees are Safety for the Monkey
The monkey is trying to show a special expression by showing his 2 certain fingers. |
You may have been to the zoo and have seen that most of the monkeys that are there in the monkey cage do not spend a lot of time on the ground. There are a lot of reasons why monkeys tend to hang out in trees. One of the main reasons is because it keeps them safe from predators. Most of the predators that monkeys have will not climb trees in order to get their meal. In addition, monkeys are very adept at swinging from one tree to the next, so they can quickly escape danger when they are in trees as opposed to being on the ground.
Monkey and Gorilla Differences in Movement
Monkey: Don't Disturb, Boss is Thinking Now. |
The monkey and the gorilla seem to have a lot of aspects in common; however, they do have their differences. For example, you will find that gorillas tend to walk on their knuckles while monkeys do not. If you did not know why gorillas walk on their knuckles, it is because it keeps their hands from having to hold all of the weight of their bodies. In most cases, monkeys typically travel by swinging from tree to tree. They can walk, but they tend to not walk on their knuckles like gorillas do. For the most part, they use their hands and feet when they move across the ground.
The Monkey and the Primate Family
The monkey and the gorilla are both a part of a family called primates. If you do not know what primates are, there are many ways that you can distinguish them from the other families. For example, primates have hands and hand-like feet. They also have eyes that are placed on the front of their heads. People can be considered to be primates; however, they do not spend most of their time in trees much like monkeys and gorillas do. Lemurs are also included in this family, and they are very good at climbing trees. There are a lot of different primates in the world.
